Although the thought of building a new home is an idea that appeals to a lot of people, many don’t explore the idea due to not understanding how the loan process for custom construction loans (also referred to as all-in-one loans) work. Here are some of the misconceptions we have heard: Continue reading “How Custom Construction Mortgage Loans Work”
When designing a home, whether that is in a development or a custom home, we at Devoted Builders like to think about a homeowner’s needs today as well as down the road. A young couple lives very differently in their home than a couple with kids, a family with teenagers, or empty nesters who have guests periodically. Did you know that, according to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), custom homebuilding has just reached a post-recession high? It’s true! NAHB’s analysis of the census data from “Quarterly Starts and Completions by Purpose and Design” survey indicated that in the third quarter of 2016, there were 49,000 total custom starts (up 47,000 in the third quarter of 2015). A few years ago, it was all the rage to build a big home. Then the downturn brought us the small home movement. This small home movement provided the building industry with some much-needed shakeups in terms of how space is built into a home and how it is utilized. Devoted Builders has welcomed the challenge to be more efficient than ever with our space and materials in order to build a better home. Here’s what we have been working on: Continue reading “Designing for Efficiency”
We live in an area ripe with opportunities to get outside throughout our seasons. We get 300 days of sunshine per year – we should all do a better job of enjoying it!
One way you can incorporate more sunshine into your life without changing your schedule is by embracing indoor-outdoor living. Creating a space that easily transitions between the in and outdoors via large, roll-away full-height windows, inviting covered areas warmed by the fire to ward off any chill, and an outdoor lighting scheme that highlights your outdoor area’s best features, you can spend more time appreciating the outdoors in comfort. When we build a home, we like to take inspiration from the environment in which the home is being built. We consider the natural slope and topography, curves, and materials when designing a home. We find this is important when creating a harmonious relationship with nature.
We are currently working on finishing up our home, located in Heritage Hills in Richland. The home will be for sale after completion in just a few weeks. As you can see from the photo at the right and in the elevation provided below, keeping the lines, paths and materials harmonious with the environment was a critical extra step we took. This home is a combination of Prairie design and Craftsman, noted for strong horizontal lines that hug the landscape and use of indigenous materials. It’s hard to believe that we are nearly at complete build out in our largest project to date, located in Pasco WA, the Mediterranean Villas Townhome community. 225 townhomes on 30 acres was quite the feat, but the process has certainly been worth it.
The community was well received from the start in 2002 and today the final few homes are under construction. What started as desert-scape and sand dunes has become a project our family business team is proud of, but more importantly thankful for. If you are planning on putting your home on the market, or have purchased a home in the last year, you may want to consider getting your air conditioning unit serviced now rather than waiting.
As the calendar moves from spring to summer, the air conditioner, whether you have a heat pump, swamp cooler, or some other type of cooling unit, will be in-demand in the coming months. So why act preventively? There are two important reasons: Continue reading “Summer Air Conditioner Maintenance”
Devoted Builder’s really enjoyed working with these great home owners in Pasco WA. The couple owned their own lot and we orchestrated the hook up of all infrastructure including, electrical, water and an engineered septic system. The owners provided us with a rough plan they had drawn and from there it was fine tuned with our designer. The home is built on a crawl space, with no steps or stairs to enter or exit the home. The owners chose traditional yet contemporary finishes including durable wood laminate flooring, quartz counter tops, beech wood cabinets and ceramic tile. For questions or to get an estimate to build a home on your own land/lot in or around the Richland, Kennewick or Pasco, WA area, call Jennifer at 509-947-5670 or Jessica at 509-947-2230. According to the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB), market conditions point to a higher demand for remodeling in the coming months. The NAHB produces their Remodeling Market Index which measures remodeling activity in homes: calls for bids, amount of work committed for the next three months, backlog of jobs and appointments for proposals. The RMI hit an all-time high of 60 in the last quarter of 2014. Continue reading “Should I Stay or Should I Go? – The Pros and Cons of Renovating”
