Did you know that, according to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), custom homebuilding has just reached a post-recession high? It’s true! NAHB’s analysis of the census data from “Quarterly Starts and Completions by Purpose and Design” survey indicated that in the third quarter of 2016, there were 49,000 total custom starts (up 47,000 in the third quarter of 2015).
A custom home is one in which a property owner works directly with a builder to create a home plan that is a good fit for the resident and one that is not going to be immediately resold. With the rise of home improvement shows and the HGTV network, people are thinking outside the box when it comes to buying or remodeling. Creating a home-flow based on how a family unit actually lives their life is a phenomenon that isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
We love working with would-be homeowners with a vision or with day-to-day problems that need to be solved. For example, you will never find a hidden second kitchen as a standard feature in new construction. But with a custom home, you can do it all!
Of course, not everyone needs a second prep kitchen, but think about the things small touches that would make your life easier. Built-in laundry hampers in your bathroom cabinets? Heated floors in your tile bathroom? A kitchen island made for eat-in meals? Smart home technology that waters your lawn and keep an eye on things, even when you are thousands of miles away? It is all possible in a custom home.
